Al DiMeola: Anthology by Todd S. Jenkins, published on September 1, 2000. The Holy Trinity of great fusion guitarists must assuredly be John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny and Al DiMeola. This two-disc Anthology collects the best tracks from seven of DiMeola’s Columbia albums between 1975 and 1983, along with four previously unreleased live tracks. Since DiMeola turned out so much uniformly excellent music for the label in that period, this collection is a fine starting point for anyone interested in pursuing the guitarist’s work.

Only for completionists (0%). This album is a shining example of this, and a great starting point for those unfamiliar with Al Di Meola. Like most compilations, it has added extras to tempt pre-existing fans into listening and these arrive in the form of four bonus tracks. Three of them are pretty cool but one is an absolute gem! In fact Medley: Short Tales of the Black Forest/Fantasia Suite is so good that I refuse to remove this album from my music collection, despite having most of the other tracks on their corresponding studio releases.
