Sleeve notes: Released for the first time in January, 1956, as a six-song, 10-inch record called Ella, Lena And Billie, this album has evolved in stages and with slight variations. The second incarnation came in July, 1958, as Billie, Ella, Lena, Sarah with the original 6 songs plus another 4. Finally released in November, 1980, Billie, Ella, Lena, Sarah! is a 12-song collection showcasing four of the greatest female singers of all time. Here is the latest incarnation of this all-time classic, mastered to sound better than ever before.
The music is generally excellent with Lady Day heard during 1935-1939, Fitzgerald's two songs being from a 1936 session with Teddy Wilson & His Orchestra, and Lena Horne also being backed by Wilson in 1941.
