The Wings of War is the 19th studio album by American thrash metal band Overkill, released on February 22, 2019. It is the band's first album to feature drummer Jason Bittner, making it their first one without Ron Lipnicki since ReliXIV (2005), as he left Overkill shortly after the release of its predecessor The Grinding Wheel (2017). About a year after the release of The Grinding Wheel, Overkill announced that that they were in the studio working on demos for their nineteenth studio album.

Just shy of a 40-year career, it amazes me that a band of Overkill’s stature can consistently produce a decent album every year or two, without any hint of relinquishing. With 10 tracks and fifty one minutes long, Overkill ’s 19th release is a balanced combination of sickening brutality and addictive melody. The name of the album was inspired by its cover, which presents five winged skulls brooding powerfully around the table seemingly prepared for battle. The Wings of War is a suitable title for a collection of songs that adopt an old formula: one that evolved with new life and new breath, and after all these years, still generates an exquisite power.
