Felix Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49, was completed on 23 September 1839 and published the following year. The work is scored for a standard piano trio consisting of violin, cello and piano. The trio is one of Mendelssohn's most popular chamber works and is recognized as one of his greatest along with his Octet, Op. 20. During the initial composition of the work, Mendelssohn took the advice of fellow composer Ferdinand Hiller to revise the piano part

8/4/2015 - Converted to Version . 2 (Mellow Yamaha Grand Piano) 10/28/2014 - Recently heard this again in yet another movie so I looked to see if there was a piano solo arrangement. As in other scores, I substituted 32nd notes for some grace notes at the beginning that didn't sound right on the playback.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Piano Trio N. in D minor, o. 9. 2014-09-21 - Original posting (on Blogger) 2014-11-13 - Re-posting as is (WordPress) 2016-07-26 - Brushed up for better readability. Introduction, The Recordings. The first one, the Piano Trio N. 9 is a brilliant masterpiece from 1839, highly praised by his contemporaries. Robert Schumann called it Masterwork of present time. Mendelssohn first performed this with tremendous success in Leipzig, in 1840, after some more revisions. Almost throughout the movement, the piano plays a typical Mendelssohnian, busy accompaniment, often with a melody in the bass, as counterpoint to the string voices. The composer’s metronome mark is challenging for the pianist. However, after all, the annotation is Molto allegro and agitato.

Ran Matsumoto (violin), Yuki Mizuno (cello), Aki Muramatsu (piano). Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827). Mendelssohn, Felix (1809-47). Beethoven: Piano Trio No. 7 in B flat Major, Op. 97 'Archduke'. Mendelssohn: Piano Trio No. Label.
