Description

Tony Iommi - Iommi (2000) FULL ALBUM! .

Here is a track I composed for Birmingham Cathedral, featuring contributions from the Birmingham Cathedral Choir and words selected by the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Birmingham. The track is titled How Good It Is. This is my way of giving back to Birmingham. You can also download an mp3 of the song at this location. How Good it Is - This is a really lovely piece of music. Fans of Tony’s metal playing will easily recognize his trademark style – the rhythm guitar in a minor key, the tasteful soloing, which blends seamlessly with the choral passages. But more importantly, the song conveys the affection we feel for our home cities, and perhaps the wistful nostalgia we feel after many years away.

In fact, guitarist Tony Iommi just composed a piece of music, How Good It Is, for the Birmingham Cathedral Choir. The Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Birmingham, wrote the lyrics, while Iommi composed the music. As you’d expect from a piece of music written for a choir, it’s not heavy, but it’s minor key, kind of dark and a beautiful piece of music. Speaking about it via press release, Iommi said the following: It’s great to be involved with the Cathedral and doing something for it, he said

The five-minute acoustic arrangement for Birmingham Cathedral was a huge departure for the musician once accused of being a Satanist. The 68-year-old said the song, How Good It Is, was to give something back to the city he hails from. He said the track was "just a little bit different to Sabbath". The project was born out of his friendship with the Dean of Birmingham, the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, which developed when he was battling cancer in 2012. Titled How Good It Is, the song opens with some classic Sabbath-style acoustic guitars and electric solos before the choir enter the fray with beautiful medieval melodies. As the song progresses, strings are added to the texture and combine with the acoustics and vocals to give the song unmistakably Celtic feel. It’s beautiful, atmospheric and dark, with the entrance of the organ at the song’s conclusion feeling particularly foreboding. After nearly 50 years in the game, Tony Iommi and co. played their final show as Black Sabbath in Moscow last July at the Olympic Stadium
