The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Barry Johnson, guitarist Chase Knobbe, bassist and back-up vocalist Matt Ebert, and drummer Pat Ware. Joyce Manor Track listing. All music composed by Joyce Manor.
Joyce Manor is an American band from Torrance, California. With their first release in 2010, they became well known for playing fun and energetic music influenced by bands such as Jawbreaker, Descendents, Weezer, Thin Lizzy, and The Smiths. Currently the band is signed to Epitaph Records (though they were previously on 6131 and Asian Man) and have 2 demos, 1 EP, 5 splits, 5 full-lengths, and 1 compilation to their name.
group Joyce Manor chose the latter, and guess what? It worked. In 2014, they signed to Epitaph to release their third album, Never Hungover Again, and immediately they attracted the attention of new fans and the music press, which had been nonexistent for their first two albums. Over the past two years, they’ve toured almost non-stop, performing in every city they could. And then it came time to write their fourth album, along with the decision to do it in a proper studio with an experienced producer. One thing I love about a Joyce Manor album is that it I know I won’t get bored listening, because it’s over so quickly. That said, at 25 minutes, Cody is almost a double album for your standards. It’s never a conscious thing. We don’t have 40 minutes of music sitting around and then get rid of half of it.
Though it’s only 18 minutes in length, the album throws you for many loops from the start with opener Orange Julius, that opens with something I can only describe as cymbals actually eating guitars. From there on, the fast paced punk-pop tales of Famous Friend and Beach Community play like short stories that work well incredibly in and out of context to the album, serving their purpose as well-conceived punk tracks to outshine the unhealthy fat left behind by emo revival (yes, I’m looking at you, Florida).
