In this sense, "Scourge of the Light," Jag Panzer's 9th album measures up to other modern power metal bands doing a similar style. With Jag Panzer though, you also get their seal of quality. Some things have not changed though. And no. hey’re on the upsurge, again. This is just a really solid album.

Released in 2011, THE SCOURGE OF THE LIGHT is the ninth studio album from Colorado Springs-based Jag Panzer. Their style is Maiden-ish, but with greater expertise, superior production, a more diversified vocalist and some MF/KD elements without the eye-rolling goat-sucking drivel. While I’ve heard Jag Panzer’s first distinguished album, AMPLE DESTRUCTION (1984), and songs from a few of their others, THE DEVIANT CHORD (2017) was my the first album I owned by the band and I was pleasantly surprised. Jag Panzer aren’t hackneyed Euro-styled power metal, but rather refined American power metal with something sophisticated and unique to offer.

Jag Panzer has been an American metal institution since the early 80’s and they’ve always been a band that you could rely on to clobber you with enormous, powerful, top-notch heavy metal of the traditional school. They’re also the original American power metal act. Their take on power metal being far different than the textbook European approach, Jag Panzer were always much heavier, tougher and had more balls than the Helloweens, Gamma Rays and such of the Euro-school.

Chain of Command is the seventh studio album by the American power metal band, Jag Panzer. The album was recorded in 1987 and went unreleased at the time, yet bootlegged since 1988. It was finally released by Century Media for the first time, with "new" cover art and a remaster job, on June 21, 2004. The label released only 5,000 copies. Most of the songs have been re-recorded by the classic line-up over the years. Bob Parduba – vocals. Mark Briody – guitar. Christian Lasegue – guitar.

Classy American power metal featuring superlative singer Harry ConklinReleased in 2011, THE SCOURGE OF THE LIGHT is the ninth studio album from Colorado Springs-based Jag Panzer. Hence, I picked up their previous opus THE SCOURGE OF THE LIGHT. Jag Panzer aren’t hackneyed Euro-styled power metal, but rather refined American power metal with something sophisticated and unique to offer. While they throw-in a few stop/start stanzas they do it in a fresh way. It’s next to useless to cite favorites because this is stunning classy power metal from beginning to end with superlative vocals by the inimitable Conklin. That said, he replicates Dio on “Let it Out.” Two standout cuts for me are "The Setting of the Sun" and anthem-ic "Union."The ten tracks clock-in at almost 49 minutes.GRADE: A
