Hold Your Fire, Patto's second album is not a radical departure from the style of the first one but it does have a bit more finesse and not such a bare exposing warts and all production. There is more complexity but it's still the powerful mix of rock and jazz they blended so successfully on that previous album.

Despite those gripes this is a good debut album (ignoring the pretty horrible sleeve, something which would be replicated on Hold Your Fire. This may lead you to believe that graphic designers had it in for Patto) with a wealth of decent material and some strong songs. Mike Patto’s voice occasionally resembles Steve Marriott’s (never a bad thing), gutsy and full of soul.

There are still relatively straight-ahead songs like the title cut and "You, You Point Your Finger". But the album contains a lot more experimentation with unusual time signature changes present in nearly all of the tunes.
