Hold Your Fire, Patto's second album is not a radical departure from the style of the first one but it does have a bit more finesse and not such a bare exposing warts and all production. There is more complexity but it's still the powerful mix of rock and jazz they blended so successfully on that previous album.
Reissues of the legendary 70s rockers Patto’s first two albums, with bonus tracks on the eponymous debut and a whole extra disc of BBC performances and demos with Hold Your Fir. .LTW’s Ian Canty looks at a great lost ban.As the swinging 60s drew to a close and new decade dawned, Patto mutated out of Mod favourites Timebox (best known for their popular cover of the Four Seasons’ Beggin', which got to number 38 in the UK charts), gaining their new moniker from the surname of vocalist Mike Patto. Despite those gripes this is a good debut album (ignoring the pretty horrible sleeve, something which would be replicated on Hold Your Fire. This may lead you to believe that graphic designers had it in for Patto) with a wealth of decent material and some strong songs. Mike Patto’s voice occasionally resembles Steve Marriott’s (never a bad thing), gutsy and full of soul.
Patto's second album, "Hold Your Fire", presents a great collection of songs that explores somewhat more complex musical territory than the debut album, "Patto". There are still relatively straight-ahead songs like the title cut and "You, You Point Your Finger". But the album contains a lot more experimentation with unusual time signature changes present in nearly all of the tunes. There's plenty of great rock, and the jazz influence still presents itself in many of the songs, particularly in Ollie's "Air-Raid Shelter
