Isosceles is a rap trio hailing from–as I’m sure everyone knows–the hip-hop hotbed of Saskatchewan, Canada. Now, here’s an interesting anecdote about the group’s name. Two of the members, emcee Shrimp . Agape and disc-jockey Scratchafras are twin brothers. The second emcee, Boya . is unrelated. Thus an isosceles triangle is formed, as they are two of the same and one different. Clever, right? After two EPs, the group released their debut album in 1998, titled Face the Music

Face the Music is the fifth studio album by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was released in September 1975 by United Artists Records and on 14 November 1975 in the United Kingdom by Jet Records. The album moves away from the large-scale classical orchestrated sound from the previous album, Eldorado, in favor of more "radio-friendly" rock/pop songs, though the string sections are still very prominent. The new sound proved successful for the group as Face the Music was the first ELO album to go platinum.

Isosceles’ Face the Music is celebrated not only amidst the hip-hop community of Saskatoon, but with underground hip-hop heads around the globe. With this post I hope to give a solid understanding as to who Isosceles were, how they came to be and some details behind this iconic Canadian hip-hop release. There are two bands with the name Isosceles. It is also the name of a British musical theatre company. 1. A Canadian Hip Hop trio, consisting of twin brothers Shrmpy (aka Agape) and Sasafras (aka Kel Worthy) as well as the telepathic triplet known as Boya D. Shrmp & Sasafras recorded their first EP in 1995, under the name MirrorImage.

The sound is stripped down a bit on Face the Music, Louis Clark's orchestral contributions generally more subdued than on Eldorado, even when they compete with the band, as on "Strange Magic. The soulful "Evil Woman" was one of the most respectable chart hits of its era, and one of the best songs that Lynne ever wrote (reportedly in 30 minutes), while "Strange Magic" showed off his writing in a more ethereal vein. One Summer Dream," which is written in a similar mode, also has a touchingly wistful mood about it but is a somewhat lackluster finale.
