Lined paper (or ruled paper) is writing paper composed of horizontal lines that separate lines of hand-written text. Additionally, this kind of paper may provide margins in the form of vertical lines. It is a good alternative for blank paper when it comes to writing, calligraphy, noting music or drawing graphs. For various reasons many people can not write in straight lines without it. Evenly spaced straight guides make for both easier writing and reading. In other words - they keep your writing straight. The type of ruling depands on the purpose of the paper or the style of handwriting

The paper is thick and, with the simple addition of the dots, is suddenly transformed from boring printer paper to luxurious writing paper. But how does it compare to the "real deal"? (Rhodia on left, HP 32lb on right). While the ivory of the Rhodia is nice, I certainly prefer the blue dots over the grey. OK, appearances aside, what really matters is how the paper does when your pen hits the paper. For comparing performance, I used one of my wettest writers to put it to the test - a Pilot Metal Falcon SF with Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo. I have been using HP 32lb paper for "normal" (non-flex) writing for months now, using it for progress notes at work, and it has performed splendidly with all varieties of pens and inks  . OK, so it ain't quite Rhodia paper. If I had to pick between the two, Rhodia wins easily.
