Two years after D'Angelo brought the organic sound and emotional passion of R&B to the hip-hop world with 1995's Brown Sugar, Erykah Badu's debut performed a similar feat. While D'Angelo looked back to the peak of smooth '70s soul, though, Badu sang with a grit and bluesiness reminiscent of her heroes, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. On & On" and "Appletree," the first two songs on Baduizm, illustrated her talent at singing soul with the qualities of jazz.

On her debut, Baduizm, Erykah Badu makes herself one of the late ’90s’ most irresistible singer/songwriters by attaching her slightly buttery, slightly vinegary pipes to jazz-informed, hip-hop-friendly grooves and an outlook at once spacey and grounded. Other Side of the Game took the point of view of a woman whose lover is deeply in the gangsta life; Next Lifetime displayed a sense of humor about Badu’s New Age beliefs by promising that reincarnation would eventually bring her together with a potential lover. On her debut, Baduizm, Erykah Badu makes herself one of the late ’90s’ most irresistible singer/songwriters by attaching her slightly buttery, slightly vinegary pipes to jazz-informed, hip-hop-friendly grooves and an outlook at once spacey and grounded.

the sound quality of this pressing is very solid overall nice dynamic range pretty sure sourced from digital, a couple of tracks have surface noise same as the cd/digital versions in particular No Love just how the album was produced.

Sounds great but bought two copies both with pops. Gonna try for a third. Good thing my store takes returns on defects.

Any comments about the quality of this release? Thinking about buying a copy...

This reissue is wonderful. Good art reproduction, nice full bass, all around good mastering. I also have the Baduism sampler, this one sounds much nicer. At least with my RP-1. . .

Trumpduck Murphwmm: "perhaps you should listen to something before you comment on it."Ahaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha, wow. This is RICH coming from the vinyl connoisseur poseur extraordinaire who claims "new records can't skip" and "Music On Vinyl is a legit label" Play it again, Murph! I haven't laughed so hard at something in AGES :D Why did you decide that "Music On Vinyl" is a pirated edition ? They always state in their publications that it was produced on the basis of and under the license of the copyright holder , such as Sony Music . The fact that some of the performers you claim to declare that their publication illegal - it is common and very often the right to publication , right to release does not belong to the performers , it all belongs to the music labels . And music "Music On Vinyl" is reprinted with the consent and license these labels or other rights holders .Yes, they make low-quality image , a blurry envelope , but on many of their reissues sound bad ( sometimes even disgusting ) , but obviously is not particularly concerned , as it is today in demand , and they do their business , that's all : ) .Of course there are questions - if they do it under license then why they do not have to use high-quality audio materials ( recording and so forth ) , why not the quality of graphic images is a big question . But you can put for the reason that the right holder is sufficient ( and probably is ) be just right , and not necessarily have the archives of Studio recordings and other materials ) , and they sell it right such labels that do reissues .But maybe it's not so significantly we don't know about it , we can only evaluate the product , often the product of bad , very bad , sometimes very good . And notice the scale of the label is very huge , very huge circulations , and they are sold by many large distributors that have a reputation .Yes not all so is pure not all so is simple , but if you have any interesting information - read this ? it will be interesting to many .Yes, even from myself I will add - this annoying markings "180 gram audiophile pressing ..." . Why why : ) . why not " Meloman pressing" . What other audiophile ))))))))But still the question is why copyright holders , those once giants of the ka the same "Sony Music" and others why they don't do reissues ? maybe you know ? why they give it in the hands of such labels as "Music On Vinyl" . Yes indeed a bit confusing .I know for a fact that there were reissues such as "Rhino Records" from the archives of Warner Music Group - that is, as I understand they are doing it yourself , and what you think of their archival reissue was a beautiful sound ? - no nothing like that , this sucks , had the same bad sound .and not even bad sound , sound as a sound only a vinyl record , that is a completely different sound than with the old editions . but we all must understand that this sound will no longer be published once , as if someone tried , Yes indeed there are reissues and today they are great excellent sound - it's not the sound of old records .Everything flows, everything changes : )

I wouldn't be so sure on your place as sounding of this reprinting) Respect The Classics really do cool qualitative PICTURES (COVER), but in the majority of their reprinting to a sound don't have absolutely not what relation), their purpose is only covers . Reprinting of an album "THE ROOTS - Do You Want More " remained the only riddle for me, but it is rather an exception. In general reprintings under brand "Respect The Classics" don't bother with a sound absolutely, they republish only PICTURES (COVER) .
Whitehammer Whitehammer
It sounds very good. Definitely better than the original pressing.

It's worth the purchase for the extra tracks alone. The previous pressings did not have all of the songs this release has. My copy hasn't came in the mail so I don't know how the quality is, but I'm sure it's fine.
