Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka is an album produced by Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. The album was a recording of the Moroccan group the Master Musicians of Joujouka, in performance on 29 July 1968 in the village of Jajouka in Morocco and released on Rolling Stones Records, and distributed by Atco Records in 1971. Jones called the tracks "a specially chosen representation" of music played in the village during the annual week-long Rites of Pan Festival

In 1968 Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones traveled to Morocco and taped parts of music at the Rites of Pan Festival. It's uncertain whether this should be considered a Brian Jones album, or an album by the Pipes of Pan at Jajouka, or an album by the Master Musicians of Jajouka, as the performers on this recording are most commonly known in the West. The important thing to know is that it's a document of Moroccan traditional music that achieves trance-like effects through its hypnotic, insistent percussion, eerie vocal chanting, and pipes.

Crossover: Brian Jones meets the Master Musicians Of Jajouka, even though he doesn't actually perform with them. Cut Short: Some pieces are broken off rather abruptly. Design Student's Orgasm: The album cover features Middle Eastern drawing and calligraphy. Drone of Dread: The chanting drones can sometimes have a haunting effect on the listener. Epic Rocking: All tracks are very long and fade into each other making the entire album one epic long piece. Meaningful Rename: The CD version changed the last word in the title from "Joujouka" to "Jajouka" to avoid confusion with another Moroccan band who have the exact same name, except for a differently spelled version of the word. No Title: The original liner notes on the album didn't provide any titles. The CD-reissue added them. One-Book Author: This is Brian Jones's only officially released solo album and it doesn't even feature him!

The pictures on this release show "Brian Jones presents" on the cover and "Brian Jones Plays" on the record. Is that correct or a copy/paste error? Reason for asking is that my UK copy of this album has "Brian Jones presents" both on sleeve and on label (not stickered) which is a combination I cannot find in all other UK COC49100 releases?

Hi. I have exactly the same suspicions with my album and label for the album I bought from a trader here on discogs for £55 There's a sticker on the album. Which corrects the mistake to Brian Jones Presents but I was wondering maybe if I pulled that sticker off it would spell the same thing? Then there's the vinyl which is correct and says 'Presents'. What furthers my suspicions is the vinyl is like new in almost mint condition. I thought this has never been played. Which would be too good to be true. Also to my disappointment there is no insert which pissed me off. I suspect if people go to the bother of bootlegging singles they'd do this one too. This album went for more money before but now it seems the market is flooded by it. And not that as expensive anymore. Thanks for the info of letting me know that the mistake was also on the vinyls label. Now I know I've been conned :(

Hi I bought a copy of the album with the typical sticker on the gatefold cover covering the mistake 'Brian Jones plays with' the sticker 'Brian Jones Presents' lebel. Now for all i know there could be the correct Writing underneath that I obviously cannot see. What makes me suspicious with this dealer charging me a lot for it is. the vinyl does not have a sticker and the label has the correct writing 'Brian Jones Presents on it' While i know they make the mistake on both record and label. I just don't like trader swapping covers with bog standard issues of the later issues and claiming them to be very rare. I'd like a copy of Brian Jones Plays with on both record and cover and on label. Cos It seems more of an early mistake. Could you lplease enlighten me on this. Cheers.Martin
