TALL COOL ONE ~ The Wailers (1959) Golden Crest Records 518. A band from Tacoma, Washington with a sound very similar to that of The Champs

Tall Cool One" is a 1959 instrumental song by The Wailers. A moderate success in 1959, it was re-released in 1964 and entered the Top 100 a second time, finally charting higher than the first time around at 38. The tune had originally been called "Scotch on the Rocks", but forseeing problems with teen audiences Clark Galehouse at Golden Crest records changed it to "Tall Cool One". The title was later reused in a 1988 song by Robert Plant, but with no reference to the original instrumental.

Continuation of Topic. Here's a reissue of the Wailers' Imperial album from the early '60s, after the original version of "Tall Cool One" on Golden Crest had charted once again. Frustrated with their deal with the New York label, the group went into the studio, recut their hit, and packaged it with a brace of loose instrumental workouts and a trio of vocals

The live album The Wailers At the Castle was the first record featuring The Wailers, Gail Harris and Rockin' Robin Roberts all together. They often toured and recorded with female back-up singers the Marshans, thus emulating and updating the R&B revue/extravaganzas that had been so influential years earlier.
