Listen to Silver Lake (Vinyl) by Vic Chesnutt - a new album (release date: June 2, 2017) @ New Releases No. At the time, you could count on two things with Vic Chesnutt: he would approach any topic and take an unexpected angle. With an incisive eye and razor wit, he would always cut straight to the heart of the matter. He did so to great effect on Silver Lake, giving equal weight to the tender affirmation of "In My Way, Yes" and the scathing self-critique of "Styrofoam," and applying his delightfully odd spin to the standard love story on both "Band Camp" and "Fa-La-La.
While Silver Lake sounds like a Vic Chesnutt album through and through, it's also a better than average introduction to the man's work; here, producer and engineer Mark Howard gives the performances an open, natural sound that puts the top-shelf band assembled for the occasion (including Doug Pettibone, Darryl Johnson, Patrick Warren, and Don Heffington) at its best advantage, and. Chesnutt himself is in superb voice, inhabiting his characters with the sure and easy grace of a gifted actor
Vic Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 - December 25, 2009) was a singer-songwriter and t who lived in Athens, Georgia, United States. Around 1985, Chesnutt moved to Athens and joined the band, The La-Di-Da's. After leaving that group he began performing solo on a regular basis at the 40 Watt Club; it was there that he was spotted by Michael Stipe of . Stipe produced Chesnutt's first two albums, Little (1990) and West of Rome (1991).
Vic Chesnutt: Silver Lake. A surprise, then, that for his 12th album he has thrown in innumerable professional musicians, a name producer (Mark Howard, who has worked with Lucinda Williams) and orchestration. Opener I'm Through packs the power of a soul show-stopper, but thereafter the sonic clutter detracts from what makes Chesnutt good. Equally, he is so enamoured by the novelty of his new tools that the music sounds like pastiche. Even the words lack the usual power; Fa-La-La, a narrative from a hospital bed, is the exception
