Attempts at Speech, although a valiant freshman release, is not ahead of its time. I’ll put it this way: if their record came out in 1978 it would be groundbreaking. Unfortunately for Duvel, music has evolved in the past 30 odd years, making their first attempt banally right on time, and right in line with its development-no doubt set by the standards of its predecessors. Out comes a powerful witch, a terribly beautiful succubus who tells him his true name. The same one who mislead the king, is the one who reveals the way to divine wisdom, connecting Parsifal with his past. After resisting the witches advances, she summons the evil king who throws the Holy Spear (the same one that pierced the side of Christ) at Parsifal. Miraculously the spear stops in front of his head, and Parsifal claims it as his own. As he leaves, the garden crumbles into dust.

1: Duvel is a postpunk band from Oslo, Norway. They have released two singles on Fysisk Format. 2: Ritchie Zebeda, also known as Duvel is a Dutch rapper, known of the Rotterdam rapgroup DuvelDuvel. He's not only a rapper, he's also active as producer. Duvel has helped produce albums for artists like Jawat!, Opgezwolle, Kubus and Extince.

Attempts at speech’ is their debut album. All twelve songs on the album were written and recorded by Zacharias Flaathe, Brage Lindebrekke and Jack Holldorff. All lyrics were written by Jack Holldorff. Their debut composition was ‘Strange’, written in the autumn of 2015. The rest of the songs on the album were written between December of 2016 and November of 2017, which gave Duvel the time they needed to rehearse before recording the album. The ‘Attempts At Speech’ album was recorded at Blitz lydstudio and engineered/produced by Bjørn Larsen.
