Those of us who fit well into society are seldom eager to risk our comfortable lives in the service of a greater good. Those of us who are marginalized, however, have less to lose and may be more likely to make political statements and take political actions  . The Monkey Wrench Gang does occasionally wax philosophically, but only in the midst of one character whining or thinking about the bourgeois influence of sanitized American adulthood on the natural environment. After this album, the band recorded the next album themselves in their home studio. They werent ready to go through that again, and theu were comfortable leaving some small imperfections in their performances. All that said, this is STILL just an incredible performance even in the most favorable studio conditions. His voice on this album is insanely good. Too bad you can't scream that way for decades without it wearing on you a bit. As a side note, drums on this song are also played to an almost inhumanely degree of perfection. In a Foo Fighters documentary, Dave talks about recording Monkey Wrench in his basement and mentions that they sat there for hours until one time he got the bridge done in one breath then motioned for everyone to keep playing because he didn't want to lose the take. Grohl also said that he usually doesn't try it live because it's super hard to repeat.
