Yaron Herman (Hebrew: ירון הרמן‎; born 12 July 1981) is a French-Israeli jazz pianist now living in Paris. Yaron initially aspired to become a professional basketball player but, confronted with a knee injury at the age of 16 was forced to come up with an alternative plan. He began playing the piano at the age of 16. He began piano lessons with jazz musician Opher Brayer, who taught him using a unique methodology based on philosophy, mathematics and psychology.

Yaron Herman Trio: Muse by Chris May, published on July 19, 2009. Muse is Yaron Herman's fourth album and with it the based pianist continues his steady progress towards a mature post-Keith Jarrett, post-Brad Mehldau style and the certainty of world ranking. Still in his late twenties, Herman set out his stall with the piano/drums duo album Takes 2 To Know 1 (Sketch, 2005), which was followed by a solo set, Variations (Laborie Records, 2006), and most recently a trio plus electronica album, A Time For Everything (Laborie Records, 2007).

Acoustic pianist Yaron Herman's introspective music has its moments of outspoken brilliance, energy bursts, and classical or Jewish heritage spilling into each other, although for the most part he keeps things relatively segregated in parsed segments. Each piece has its own identity, which makes it difficult for the category choosers to give him an overall sound print.

Israeli-born and Paris-based pianist Herman, who has been quietly making waves for the last few years, gets this. Rina Ballé, the closing salvo on his fourth album as a leader in the company of premier American drums and bass team Gerald Cleaver and Matt Brewer, is a discreet jewel of a song. A deeply plaintive slow- to mid-tempo ballad, it ambles with enormous grace through a wounded minor key theme whose heavily inflected classical harmony is brought into sharper focus by a string quartet that favours low, sombre tonalities above higher sprightly ones.
