Terpandre recorded its album in record time (just two weeks), laying down the songs on 24 tracks. The album was mixed and by September, the band was rehearsing again, this time without Tilleman, who had been recruited purely for the album sessions. The band then split up and Tilleman formed his own band, Tillenco, before playing in the re-formation of Zao. Tardieu was contacted by the Vivante brothers who played in the band Vortex and joined immediately.

Terpandre played a dreamy restrained brand of instrumental progressive, with symphonic (classical) elements given reign by a wealth of keyboards, synthesizers and lots of Mellotron. Add to that some slight jazz/folk edges, some of it resembles instrumental sections of Genesis or The Enid, but with that uniquely French touch. The album's only drawback (for me) is that it's often too restrained and laid-back. But maybe that's apt for a band that named themselves after a 7th Century musician from the Greek Island of Lesbos!

A latecomer in the prog rock scene, it's little wonder this French band had only released this one album. Although it was released in 1981, the album was actually recorded in 1978, right in the middle of punk and disco, so it's little wonder why they couldn't find a label to release it at the time. So it's surprising that a little label called Dionysos released this in 1981. You can tell it's a 1978 recording, as it has a '70s sound. This is a brand of mellow, lush symphonic prog, with fusion tendencies (with the presence of electric violin not unlike Jean Luc Ponty). Somewhere on the lines of Genesis, Camel, Focus with just tons of Mellotron all over. I am surprised to see an album recorded in 1978 using this much tron aside from Cathedral's Stained Glass Stories (which luckily saw the light of day soon after recording). Little surprise the original is next to impossible to find, with only about 1,500 copies made, no wonder Musea reissued this several years later, so obviously get the Musea reissue. The CD reissue has two bonus cuts, recorded in 1977, including an early version of "Conte En Vert". Sadly these bonus cuts are downright unlistenable as the sound quality is so poor that it sounded like it was taped off someone's home tape recorder (it probably was). On the other hand, those two cuts are probably the only remaining documentary of this band outside the album that was released. It's a nice album to have if you're into symphonic prog or need to fill a whole in your Mellotron album collection.
