A collaboration with sisters/cousin trio Wildwood Kin, Ballads is pares down even further from his semi-rustic 2014 effort Word of Mouth, offering spare single-mike renderings of seven new originals and four traditional and cover songs. As is occasionally his custom, Lakeman once again eschews a proper studio, opting to record at an old Jacobean manor house, with Ethan Johns capturing the sessions in all their harmonic glory.

Kitty Jay, Lakeman's second solo album was released in 2004. This was also produced by brother Sean Lakeman in his kitchen. The title track of the album tells the story of Jay's Grave, a well known location on Dartmoor. The album was recorded for a cost of less than £300. Ballads of the Broken Few was released on Cooking Vinyl and charted at number 19, Seth's 8th Studio album. He toured around the UK and played many festivals including Beautiful Days, Glastonbury Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week. In October Seth received an Honorary Degree - Master of Arts.

Seth Lakeman's eighth studio album is a stunning collaboration between his dynamic song-writing, the genius of legendary producer Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling) and the sublime harmony backing vocals of emerging girl trio Wildwood Kin. Between them they have conjured up an epic, soulful album of intense songs that are stripped back to their very essence. They recorded the 11 tracks 'live' with an organic, acoustic vibe created in the great hall of a Jacobean Manor House and the album oozes with the atmosphere of this setting.
