Philip Michael Thomas (born May 26, 1949) is an American retired actor and musician. Thomas' most famous role is that of detective Ricardo Tubbs on the hit 1980s TV series Miami Vice. His first notable roles were in Coonskin (1975) and opposite Irene Cara in the 1976 film Sparkle. After his success in Miami Vice, Thomas appeared in numerous made-for-TV movies and advertisements for telephone psychic services. In 1985, Thomas released a music album titled "Living the Book of My Life" album under his own record label called Spaceship Records. It sold poorly and failed to produce a hit single, although Thomas produced a video for the track "Just the Way I Planned It. .Thomas performed the title song of the album during the 1985 Miami Vice episode, "The Maze. The episode "Trust Fund Pirates" featured another of his songs, "La Mirada".

Philip Michael Thomas (Co-writer, Executive producer) was born May 26, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio. He is a 1967 graduate from San Bernardino High School in California. He attended Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, UC Riverside and UC Berkley. Mr. Thomas received the degree of Doctor of Arts (Honoris Causa) from Shaw Universit. ore. Philip Michael Thomas has been involved in many projects since Miami Vice. Philip Michael Thomas released his first album Living the book of my Life in 1986 and in 1987 he released his second album titled Somebody. In 1993 he co-wrote My, My, My Mia. with Kathy Rahill and the song was chosen as the Miami’s city anthem. He also composed the music to the musical Sacha that he co-wrote with Sandi Morais. Thomas received the degree of Doctor of Arts (Honoris Causa) from Shaw University in 1997 for his contribution to the arts. He released his first album Living The Book of My Life on his Spaceship/Atlantic record label in 1986. He teamed up with music legends Ashford & Simpson to produce his second album titled Somebody. The album was released on Spaceship/Atlantic Records in 1988. Philip was cast in the Debbie Allen Special as a choreographer with Ms. Allen for her television special, and he sang the sophisticated tune Falling from his Somebody Album. Philip and Kathy Rayhill composed My, My, My, My AM.
