Arcadia’s 1985 hit single Election Day had a galvanizing effect on me, compelling me to purchase the Duran Duran spin-off’s sole album So Red the Rose. I haven’t forgotten the bitter disappointment that slowly settled in upon listening to the remaining eight songs. The question is: does this album hold any value for those not already enamored of Duran Duran? The problem, to my ears anyway, with so much music from this era is the garish production so commonly applied to otherwise decent pop. It’s not that the songs on So Red the Rose are especially bad. But to say they’re generally overproduced is an understatement.

They separated (apparently without certainty of reuniting). Two of the members (the guitarists) formed the band "Power Station" with Robert Palmer, and the rest created a new album under the name "Arcadia". It had a twist of style that would later be re-discovered in the original. When the band ended its separation and returned as Duran Duran only three of the original members remained.

Arcadia were a new wave British group formed in 1985 by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and Roger Taylor of Duran Duran as a side project during a break in that band's schedule. The project was only active during 1985 and 1986 for just one album, So Red the Rose, which was certified Platinum in the United States and included the singles "Election Day", "Goodbye Is Forever", "The Flame" and "The Promise (ft. David Gilmour and Sting)".
