The Clambakes Series Vol. Studio album by Superchunk. Released in 2002 The Clambakes Series Volume 2 (limited to 2,500 copies) is a film score that Superchunk was commissioned to write. It was recorded live at the Castro Theater in San Francisco, April 23, 2002 during the San Francisco International Film Festival at a showing of Teinosuke Kinugasa's 1926 film A Page of Madness. Defining music as alternative is often difficult because of two conflicting applications of the word, the name alternative rock essentially serves as an umbrella term for underground music that has emerged in the wake of punk rock since the mid-1980s. Alternative bands during the 1980s generally played in clubs, recorded for indie labels.

In spite of the ensuing bidding war that emerged between major record labels in the aftermath of the album's release, Superchunk decided to stay independent, sticking with Matador Records for their second, just as critically lauded LP, No Pocky for Kitty, which was recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini in 1991. Garrison left the band a few weeks before the record's release, and Jon Wurster was brought on board on drums. It was recorded live at the Castro Theater in San Francisco on April 23, 2002, during the San Francisco International Film Festival at a showing of the 1926 Teinosuke Kinugasa film A Page of Madness. Clambakes Series Volume 3 was released in 2004, documenting the live set Superchunk played at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina, on July 23, 1999, for the Merge Records tenth anniversary celebration. 1 like  . Superchunk 'Clambakes' Official Bootlegs. Veteran indie rock outfit Superchunk will on March 15 launch the authorized bootleg "Clambake Series" through the Web site of its own Merge Records label. The first volume will be titled "Vol. 1 Acoustic In-Stores East & West," and will feature 18 acoustic tracks recorded during in-store appearances on the band's 2001 fall tour. Knowing that these types of things really appeal to fans (and such fine fans we have!), the CD will be limited to 1,500 copies," reads a post on the site. The band has also been asked to write and perform music at this year's San Francisco Film Festival, where it will accompany the 1926 silent Japanese avant-garde film "A Page of Madness. The performance will be held April 23 at the city's historic Castro Theatre.

Fix in Music Library. Both CD and LP include a bonus download of Clambakes Vol 9: Other Music From Unshowered Grumblers – Live in NYC 1990, a show recorded at CBGB just four days after the album was released.

Hidden Winter Hidden Winter
The claim that this music is "the one and only performance of music written to accompany this great Japanese silent film" is completely false. The Aono Jikken Ensemble performed, recorded and released their soundtrack to this film on CD in 1998. Plus, who knows how many other untold number of people have performed music for the film since 1926.

I read it correctly, they just need to re-phrase it.

I think you misread the description. The comment means it was the one performance of the music on the disc, not that it was the only time the film was accompanied by music written for it.
