Lionel Edmund Rose MBE (21 June 1948 – 8 May 2011) was an Australian bantamweight boxer, the first Indigenous Australian to win a world title. He later became the first Indigenous Australian to be named Australian of the Year. Lionel was the 2003 Inductee for the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame Moderns category and was the 2nd person to be elevated to Legend status in 2010.

Lionel Edmund Rose MBE (21 June 1948 – 8 May 2011) was an Australian boxer. He was the first indigenous Australian to win a world title. Rose was ranked as a bantamweight boxer. This is a class for boxers who weigh between 115 and 118 pounds (52 and 54 kg). Rose was born and raised in Victoria. He was born at Jacksons Track, and lived in the town of Warragul. Rose had a difficult childhood. He learned to box from his father, Roy. Roy was a skilled fighter who competed in local house shows
Lionel Rose was an Australian boxer. He was the first Aboriginal athlete to win a world boxing championship. Rose won the world bantamweight title when he was 19. He successfully defended the title three times before losing it to Mexican boxer Ruben Olivares in 1969. Rose retired in 1976 with a career record of 42 wins and 11 losses. Rose remained a popular figure in Australia for the rest of his life.
Released on Dido’s 1999 debut studio album, No Angel, Thank You made its first appearance in 1998, on the soundtrack of Sliding Doors, although it was not released as a single until late 2000. The song reached top 40 in the UK in 2001.
