Ithyphallic is not a terrible album. Its not even a bad one. In fact, its pretty good overall and excellent in a few choice places. The latest Nile offering is a step forward for the band in that new aspects of the music have been developed, but the progression is a relatively small one. Fans will surely revel in this latest offering while critics will retain the same deprecating ammunition thanks to what still remains to be, a particularly Ithyphallic release.

Ithyphallic is the fifth studio album by American technical death metal band Nile. It was released on July 17, 2007 through Nuclear Blast, in both standard and digipak formats. It is the band's first album released on Nuclear Blast, since signing with them in May 2006. It is also the band's first album since Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka not to feature notes explaining the context of the lyrics

There are a few ways to interpret the album's title, but regardless of how you look at it the answer will always boil down to boners. Ithyphallic can either be a reference to the phallus carried in the bacchanalia, or it could maybe have to do with the poetic metre used in hymns sung during the carrying of the phallus during the bacchanalia. Regardless of what they meant with the album title, the bigger question is why they chose one that refers to a Greek/Roman god.
