Amplified Heart is the eighth studio album by British musical duo Everything but the Girl. It was released on 13 June 1994 by Atlantic Records in the United States and Canada, and elsewhere by Blanco y Negro Records. The album was recorded and mixed in London from winter 1993 to 1994. Its cover photography was by Corinne Day. Primarily an acoustic-driven set, Amplified Heart brought Everything but the Girl to mainstream audiences via the dance remix of the song "Missing". Despite its title, Amplified Heart is one of Everything but the Girl's more acoustic works. A simple instrumentation of guitars and keyboards, augmented here and there by British folk-rock veterans like Richard Thompson, Danny Thompson, and Dave Mattacks, serves to set up a series of songs of romantic disillusionment. The approach is much more introspective than that taken on the group's previous album of new music, Worldwide, but Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt's musical restraint supports it well. This is an album to listen to when you've just broken up with your lover, or even when you're just in the mood to think about lost lovers from long ago - self-pity set to music.

The duo’s seventh studio album features the original version of the single ‘Missing,’ a song that was catapulted into the mainstream (a transatlantic top 5 hit, no less) thanks to Todd Terry’s famous house remix.

Although it was released in 1994, it has staying power not afforded what some detractors said was just "another" British pop duo - a blip on the music screen from across the pond. If they'd made another album like this instead of Walking Wounded maybe EBTG would have conquered the world by now rather than having faded way like they did after Missing. I live in hope that one day they'll give Amplified Heart a relisten and realise that this was their finest hour and return to the sound they made here. Until then I've got this to listen to instead. I can live with that.
