In November 1992 McLennan issued his second album, Fireboy, which was produced by Dobbyn again. McFarlane compared it with his previous one and found it was "an even more melancholy set of songs that boasted fuller (though never obtrusive) arrangements.

McLennan's second solo album finds the musician in excellent form, with a baker's dozen worth of songs that won't challenge preconceptions, but do make for a great listen all around.

McLennan came to prominence in the 80s as one half of the celebrated Go-Betweens' writing team with Robert Forster. After that band called the first half of their career a day in December 1989, McLennan collaborated with the Church's Steve Kilbey on the Jack Frost project before embarking on a low-key solo career.
