Singer-songwriter Steve Gunn got off to an early start in high school punk bands, before establishing himself as a player in the Philly music scene. Now, the critically hailed musician has just released his seventh full-length studio album, "Eyes on the Lines.
Steve Gunn doesn’t take many chances, and as much as I enjoy his lazy harmonic psychedelic meanderings, I’m beginning to wonder just how much more of Gunn’s music I’m ever gonna nee. r perhaps at this stage, I should construct one of my infamous compilations, selecting the cream of his material, and let the rest drift off toward th. S. ronically at this point, I seem to have convinced myself that Eyes On The Lines is a really nice album that I should treasure, keep my mouth shut, and enjoy riding shotgun with Steve, even if he takes me nowhere.

8. Release date: 03 June 2016. As with fellow fretboard traveller Ryley Walker, Steve Gunn's roots are in free-range improvisation. Also similarly to the Illinois-born Tim Buckley and John Martyn enthusiast, Gunn continues to dabble in more esoteric side projects, such as a recent banjo-wielding spook-folk collaboration Seasonal Hire with the Black Twig Pickers, even as his songwriting prowess is blooming. As such, the relatively conventional, lean and street-smart folk 'n' rock 'n' roll sound of Gunn's third outing as a singer and songwriter as well as a guitarist may come as a surprise.
The songs on Steve Gunn’s seventh album and Matador Records debut Eyes on the Lines don’t move straight ahead. Instead, they loop, swirl, and curl. On the album, detours aren’t distractions. On Conditions Wild, Gunn lyrically paraphrases from author Rebecca Solnit’s book A Field Guid to Getting Lost. It’s a field guide from the other side, beyond the path you know, he sings, his husky Philly baritone rolling over organ and a steady backbeat. Feel the path and move along the traces where you’ll go.
Steve Gunn has announced a new album, The Unseen In Between. The follow-up to 2016’s Eyes on the Lines arrives January 18 via Matador. The Unseen In Between was produced by James Elkington, and features contributions from Bob Dylan’s musical director Tony Garnier (bass), Meg Baird (vocals), and others. Gunn kicks off a residency at Brooklyn’s Union Pool tomorrow night (October 25). Beginning in January, he’ll play North American, European, and UK shows.

Gunn also kept busy as a solo artist, releasing a split album with Sun City Girls entitled Not the Spaces You Know, But Between Them in 2011. In 2012, the guitarist joined Kurt Vile & the Violators for a global tour, eventually returning to issue his next album Time Off, a trio album featuring Truscinski and bassist Justin Tripp, for Paradise of Bachelors in the late spring of 2013. Despite all the forward motion, Eyes on the Lines is also richly contemplative. As Gunn extolls the virtues of ambling, he gives himself lots of time to observe and ruminate.
Album: Eyes on the Lines. Heyo! SONGLYRICS just got interactive. What on the street is always wide Call on the runnin high Out on the road they just don't care All kinds of heads won't roll back there Take what you see on long ways Out on the road there's nowhere to go. Hypnotized, your mind finds a time It made you blind full moon time. What on the street is always wide? Hang around and steal your time Outlawed thoughts and a windied sight Anger cry of a try. Hypnotized, your mind finds a time It made you blind full moon time
Steve Gunn performed a live session for Seattle-based independent radio station KEXP.
