Charles Camilleri (7 September 1931 – 3 January 2009) was a Maltese composer. Camilleri was born in Ħamrun and, as a teenager, composed a number of works based on folk music and legends of his native Malta. He composed over 100 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and solo instruments. Camilleri is recognized in Malta as one of the major composers of his generation

A music festival to commemorate the life and works of the late composer Charles Camilleri will be held between Wednesday and January 17, with concerts in the UK and Malta. This month marks the first anniversary from Mro Camilleri's demise. Festival organiser and artistic director Maria Blanco said the concept of the festival sprouted from a personal promise made to Mro Camilleri to "keep his music alive". The festival will start in Kent on January 13, continuing with a concert at St James Piccadilly in London on January 14 and culminating in two concerts at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta on January 16 and 17. The highlights of the January 16 concert will include a world premiere of the Sonata for Two Clarinets, Kanti Popolari, the Clarinet Concertino and the Flute Divertimento.

In 1964, the Malta Song Festival was transmitted for the first time on the Malta Television Service on 16, 17 and 21 November. The final results were however announced in a presentation ceremony held and transmitted also on Malta Television on Wednesday 25 November 1964. In 1967, Rediffusion Malta, managed to issue the first long playing album of Maltese compositions, entitled "Malta Song Festival 1967". Music conducted by Mro. Joseph Sammut. However, Charles Camilleri, who has died aged 77, stands out in this company, because his music, comprising more than 300 compositions written over 65 years, is known around the world.
