Trombone player, composer, and bandleader Willie Colón is one of the pioneers of Latin American music. me known as one of the first albums to feature the "New York Sound" that sparked a renewed interest in Latin music during the 1970s. Their 1978 album Siembra became the top-selling album in Fania's catalog. Despite their success, Blades severely quarreled with label president Jerry Mascucci over money.

Asalto Navideño is a 1971 Christmas album by Willie Colón. The title "asalto" is a pun on the practice of invading friends and neighbours houses in Puerto Rico with Christmas cheer. The album has the active participation of Yomo Toro, who collaborates with the cuatro (instrument of 4 rupes), the present instrument in all the songs of the project. In addition to all this, the album has been the most sold of the history of the Latin music, whose thematic is exclusively for Christmas.
