Bass and acoustic guitars in particular stand out here, as Mournful Congregation create deep, somber riffs that vocalist Damon Good growls and croons over, both done excellently. Monad is never slow just to be slow, every minute on this hour long journey feels masterfully crafted.

2005 saw the release of The Monad of Creation, although most of the material is much older, with some dating back to 1994. In 2009, the band performed live for the first time in their fifteen-year existence. They played four Australian shows, followed up by a further 17 shows throughout Europe to promote their album The June Frost, released that year. The group issued a compilation album, The Unspoken Hymns, in September 2011  . mature work to date Mournful Congregation's fifth album The Incubus of Karma was released on 23 March 2018.

The Monad Of Creation is the first album proper. Members include Damon Good, Adrian Bickle and Justin Hartwig. Recorded in Adelaide, and released by Weird Truth Productions, Japan in 2005, the album is a heavyweight within the doom scene. A mix of old and new, with crushing heaviness, combined with peaceful acoustic interludes and seemingly endless tracks, The Monad Of Creation announced the arrival of Mournful Congregation to the world.

The Monad of Creation introduces an entirely variant form of funeral doom; one that still delves into the usual meandering song structures and depressive themes, but with an elaborate emphasis on melody, and the prominence of melancholy over sheer extremity and weight. Not only have Mournful Congregation managed to integrate gentle and melancholic acoustic passages into their long and well crafted songs, there’s even an entire acoustic track, ‘When the Weeping Dawn Beheld its Mortal Thirst’. It isn’t filler either, as seen by its playtime of ten minutes. The lyrics make up very little of the album in terms of playing time, yet Mournful Congregation use them where it counts; intertwining with the melodies, alluding to an ethereal and grand realm, whence thou speaketh like so. Jokes aside, the correlation between the lyrics and the music is very high; a success in the attempt of cohesion.
