Destroy All Astromen! was the second recording released by the surf rock group Man or Astro-man?. Often cited as their second album, it is actually a compilation of tracks that appeared on 7"s recorded the previous year (1993). The first pressing was a limited red vinyl pressing of 200 copies. A Mouthful of Exhaust". Joker's Wild" (The Ventures). Intoxica" (The Revels).

With Destroy All Astromen!!, their plans of eventually conquering Earth are carried through with this live recording that not only pays tribute to the aforementioned influences, but also to their musical inspirations. Covers of Dick Dale, the Rezillos, and even the Mystery Science 3000 theme song can be found on this full-length. Not as experimental or "out there" in comparison to their material on Touch and Go Records, but it still holds true to the Man or Astro-man? ethics of being ahead of their time in the surf genre.

Man or Astro-man? is an American surf rock group that formed in Auburn, Alabama in the early 1990s and came to prominence over the following decade. Primarily instrumental, Man or Astro-man? blended the surf rock style of the early 1960s like that of Dick Dale and The Spotnicks with the new wave and punk rock sounds of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Contrary to the supplied photos, my copy has the side letter in black and the robot in red. I assume that this is common?

Check out the other entry with the same catalog number from the same year. It's got the labels you're referring to. I made the same mistake.

Just got around to snapping a quick picture of the respective labels. According to my local record shop, it's a first pressing. I've no idea if that's valid.

What are you talking about? My copy looks identical to the supplied photos. Upload some pics!

Man Or Astroman? is among my favorite bands, that lesser known group many music fans have and love to tell others about. And this is my favorite of their full-length releases. Destroy All Astromen is tight, cohesive as album, and above all, fun. On an album with few vocals, one first notices the band's extensive use of old sci-fi movie samples as the delineation between songs. But after listening over and over as I have, what stands out more over time is, for all of the pseudonyms and goody credits, how good Astroman are musicians, particularly on guitar. It's the musicianship that sets the vocally bare songs apart, and I tend to think that's not terribly easy to do.Highlights include "Reverb 10,000," "The Heavies," and "Destination Venus," one of the few vocal tracks.
