Highly Distinct The Friends of Distinction.

referencing Highly Distinct, LP, Album, LSP-4212. Good idea, lackluster results, at least with this, their debut. Poor song selection coupled with strange etations. And the female vocals, while trying to sound hip and groovy, come off more matronly and choir-like. Reply Notify me Helpful.

The Friends of Distinction were an American vocal group best known for their late 1960s hits, "Grazing in the Grass", "Love or Let Me Be Lonely", and "Going in Circles". Founded by Harry Elston and Floyd Butler, The Friends of Distinction also included Jessica Cleaves and Barbara Jean Love, who was replaced by Charlene Gibson during her pregnancy

The Friends of Distinction were formed in 1968, by Floyd Butler, Harry Elston, Jessica Cleaves, and Barbara Love. Their first major hit, 'Grazin' in the Grass', was a radical vocal reworking of the hit by Hugh Masekela with lyrics written by Elston. On the other hand, "Highly Distinct" was always, and still is, highly unlistenable. At this point in their career, the group had enjoyed back-to-back million selling singles and RCA asked (correction: DEMANDED) that a new album be produced immediately. truth be told (as Harry Elston would say), the Friends had been on the road for months, headlined LA's Greek Theater with Tom Jones, and simply didn't have the time to put something special together for a follow-up LP.

One Way's two-fer of the Friends of Distinction's Grazin' and Highly Distinct captures the swinging pop-soul group at their prime. This, in fact, contains their greatest hits - "Grazing in the Grass" and "Going in Circles" - along with a lot of other songs that sound like that, including a fair number of covers.
