Description

William D. Revelli, Conducting assisted by George r. Cavender in its classic.

The marching band of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, .

The Michigan Marching Band (MMB) is the University of Michigan student musical ensemble best known for performing marching band shows at Michigan Wolverines football games. From it's roots in the first 24 member Michigan Band of the 19th century, the MMB has evolved to over 400 members. The band performs at all home, select away games, and countless Michigan athletic events and other performances.

This video shows how the University of Michigan Marching Band prepared for the 1972 Rose Bowl under Director George Cavender. This was the first year of the MMB following the retirement of legendary director William D. Revelli. Footage shows practice sessions at UCLA, a performance at Disneyland, the Rose Parade, and portions of the Rose Bowl pregame and halftime shows. The video was released in 1975.

The Michigan Marching Band (MMB) is the marching band of the University of Michigan Michigan Marching Band. George R. Cavender (1971–79). William D. Revelli (1935–71). Nicholas Falcone (1927–34). The Michigan Marching Band has one drum major, commonly referred to as the "Man Up Front" or "Woman Up Front," for the entire 400+ member ensemble. Like in most Big Ten bands, the MMB drum major is not a conducting position. The drum major provides whistle commands to provide song tempos and parade instructions.

College & University in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The University of Michigan band under Eugene Fischer's direction aroused a genuine source of pride among the students, faculty, and alumni. In the spring of 1914, Fischer left the band to pursue a career as a dance band leader. During his years as director, he received little or no remuneration for his services as director of the University band. The Michigan Band, in its new stadium performing before record crowds of over 83,000 people, began to execute marching drills and formations that were becoming more and more complex. At the Michigan-Ohio State University football game in 1932, the University of Michigan Band created the first "script Ohio" - predating a similar formation now made famous by the OSU Band!
