The Brendan Suite was Davey's first work for orchestra. It is based on the journey of a sixth-century monk who may have been the first European in America. The uillean pipes, played by Liam O'Flynn, represent the boat. This innovative work, combining classical and traditional folk music, made Davey's reputation.

The Brendan Voyage was Shaun Davey's first major orchestral suite, composed for uilleann pipes played by Liam O'Flynn. It depicts Tim Severin’s adventure in reconstructing Saint Brendan’s 6th century Atlantic crossing to America.
