The Bandit is hired on to run a tractor trailer full of beer over state lines, in hot pursuit by a pesky sheriff. Bandit and Cledus are two truck-driving southerners who accept a dare from big-shots Big and Little Enos to pick up a truckload of beer from Texas and return it to them within a specified amount of time. Picking it up is simple enough, but as they are leaving Texas, Bandit unwittingly picks up Carrie, a hitchhiking bride-to-be who just left her groom, Junior, at the altar. Junior, however, is the son of Sheriff Buford T. Justice. And when Buford and Junior discover what has happened, they go on a "high-speed pursuit" across the Southeast to catch the bandit.

Witnesses have described the Denver Thong Bandit as a Caucasian or Hispanic male between the ages of 20 and 40. According to police, the man usually enters an alley while fully clothed and disrobes down to a thong in front of his victims. Commander Paul Pazen of the Denver Police Department has confirmed that four separate encounters with the Thong Bandit have been reported during the previous two weeks. They are relying on the suspect’s pattern repetition to help track him down. We look for patterns – day of week, time of day, weather conditions – to see if we could guess when an individual will try to perpetrate a crime, Commander Pazen explained to NBC News. It’s very difficult to try to guess what a human being is thinking, and here, those challenges are even greater when you have somebody who thinks it’s OK to run around in a thong.
