Ethel Merman was electric and unforgettable creating the original Rose, and the rest is history. It is the role that every Broadway leading lady wants a crack at and most suceed admirably (except perhaps Tyne Daly who was not capable of performing the role and should have stuck to television mothers). A great score, Jule Styne's music is wonderful and Sondheim's lyrics are masterful! A must have album for any theater collector.

Everything's Coming Up Roses" is a song from the 1959 Broadway musical Gypsy, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and music by Jule Styne. Introduced in the musical's inaugural production by Ethel Merman, "Everything's Coming Up Roses" became one of Merman's signature songs. According to Sammy Cahn, the song had its genesis in the 1947 musical High Button Shoes, for which he was the lyricist.

Gypsy: A Musical Fable With Ethel Merman. Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne. 2014 Original Broadway Cast. Greatest Musicals Double Feature - Call Me Madam & Gypsy.

This tribute to burlesque was a star vehicle for Ethel Merman. The score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim includes the Merman standard "Everything's Coming Up Roses," and the song that is invariably used to introduce anything having to do with the strip tease, "Let Me Entertain Yo. A 702-performance hit in its original production (which is captured here), the show was considered the definitive Merman performance and the crowning achievement of her long career. It marked her final appearance in a new Broadway musical, though she later appeared in revivals.

Description: Considered by many to be the last great musical comedy, Gypsy tells the backstage tale of vaudeville entertainer turned stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her overbearing mother, Rose.
