Bach: Four Concerti for Various Instruments. Orchestra of St. Concerto for oboe & violin (or 2 violins), strings & continuo (reconstruction), BWV 1060R. Concerto for 3 violins, strings & continuo in D major (reconstruction), BWV 1064R.

The Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) is an American chamber orchestra based in New York City, formed in 1974. The orchestra performs at several venues in New York City, including: Carnegie Hall. Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. Saint Thomas Church (Manhattan). Congregation Emanu-El of New York. Morgan Library & Museum. Luke's is the orchestra for Paul Taylor Dance Company. Luke's, conducted by Feltsman, turns in a very spirited performance. And although it's not a HIP band, their nimble forces and lissome playing make this 1993 recording sound modern which is to say: devoid of the 19th and 20th century romantic baroque opulence that had occurred here and there. Only in the opening Allegro of the F minor concerto (BWV 1056) is the orchestra minimally heavy-footed; everywhere else tempos strike lively and natural. Terrific stuff that makes for happy listening.

List of concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach. Johann Sebastian Bach's Violin Concertos, BWV 1041–1043, and his six Brandenburg Concertos survive in their original instrumentation. His harpsichord concertos are mostly adaptations of concertos originally written for other solo instruments. In his early career Bach transcribed concertos by other composers for organ (BWV 592–596) and for harpsichord (BWV 972–987).
