Description

War Babies is the third studio album by American pop music duo Hall & Oates. The album was released on October 19, 1974, by Atlantic Records. It was their last of three albums for Atlantic Records before moving to RCA Records. The album was produced by Todd Rundgren. Rundgren and other members of Utopia, his prog-rock band, perform on the record.

Be that as if may, War Babies was the first charted album from the duo, reaching in the fall of 1974, a far cry from the blue-eyed soul fashioned by Daryl and John, possessing limited if any dynamic range, reminding me of something recorded inside of a coffee can, or perhaps that Whole Oats can imaged on their first album cover.

After crafting the fitfully accomplished blue-eyed Philly soul-pop of Abandoned Luncheonette, Hall & Oates retreated to a more rock-oriented sound on War Babies, recorded with producer Todd Rundgren. Some of the tracks work, but the duo's performance sounds forced throughout much of the record.

War Babies is the progressive album by Hall and Oates that gives us the indication of the rock path they certainly COULD have followed in their musical growth. While Todd Rundgren is often chastised for his dominant influence during the production of other's music, he also brings an artistic extension. That aside, this recent remaster is horrid. To hear this album correctly, find the vinyl, cassette or earlier Japanese import.
