1965 (age 52–53) Huntly, New Zealand. In the mid-'90s, McDonald continued to work with the Strawpeople and at the same time worked on songs for her solo album Television. Fiona's first television work was in 1997 presenting, a TV2 series about the internet. In 2005 McDonald was also one of the three judges in the first series of NZ Idol and presented the New Zealand version of 10 Years Younger. She also presented the second series of arts show The Big Art Trip

Having vacated her guest slot for Strawpeople, McDonald launched this aggressive debut in 1999. Elements of A Different Hunger wouldn't seem too out of place on Strawpeople, but a lot is menacing dark rock ("Sin Again"). Wish I Was a Man" continues to carve in the dirty grunge vein. Wish I was a man/Drag that razor down my face," she sings, like Jenny Morris with a migraine. The record hovers to other plains in the Mezzanine-style Massive Attack/Portishead "Blue Wails" and the bluesy introspection of "I Don't Care.

A second album, Body Blow, appeared in 1991 which featured singer Fiona McDonald. It was during this time with McDonald that the Headless Chickens would attract their widest audience. Two versions of Body Blow were released, with the revised and expanded 1993 version going double platinum in New Zealand. This album spawned the single "Cruise Control" which became a hit in New Zealand and (in a remixed form) Australia.
