Butler was dubbed the "Iceman" by a Philadelphia disc jockey while performing in a Philadelphia theater. However, Butler achieved what eluded many earlier Doo Wop groups during the 1950s and 1960s - longevity.

Jerry Butler has a warm and soothing voice. his early cuts like "Your Precious Love" and "He Will Break Your Heart" have the Sam Cooke sound. if you like Sam Cooke or even the Impressions, this CD is worth adding. there is a nice 8 page booklet included. this is a 1987 Rhino records release. this one is out of print. Jerry Butler is still one of the best artist around. He is a true professional in every word.

By 1970, Butler was a soul-music institution. His split from Gamble and Huff that year initiated a moderate downturn in his popularity, but he remained a consistent hitmaker for many years. Butler was especially noted for his duets with Gene Chandler and Brenda Lee Eager in the early 1970s. He signed with the Motown label in 1976, but returned to Gamble and Huff’s Philadelphia International label two years later. The shift resulted in an increase in Butler’s popularity for a time.

He hires an expensive butler and French chef and has many dinner parties. Possible morals? Sometimes we don't appreciate those around us. Often the thing we are looking for is right under our noses. However, the couple don't come out and say what the problem is; you need to work it out for yourself. The House with Golden Windows is a Children's Story about a poor farm boy who, at the end of most working days, would sit on top of a hill and look at a far-away house that appeared to have golden windows.

Later in 1956, he joined his high school friend Jerry Butler's group The Roosters with brothers Arthur and Richard Brooks. He wrote and composed songs for this group who would become The Impressions two years later. Mayfield was a prolific songwriter in Chicago even outside his work for the Impressions, writing and producing scores of hits for many other artists. He also owned the Mayfield and Windy C labels which were distributed by Cameo-Parkway, and was a partner in the Curtom (first independent, then distributed by Buddah then Warner Bros and finally RSO) and Thomas labels (first independent, then distributed by Atlantic, then independent again and finally Buddah)

Jerry Butler, Soundtrack: Mr. Nobody. Jerry Butler got his start in the music business at age 18 when he and his friend Curtis Mayfield formed a singing group and named them The Impressions. They had an almost immediate hit with a song Butler wrote, "For Your Precious Love", which became the group's first gold record. Nicknamed "The Iceman" by legendary Philadelphia DJ Georgi Woods. 2013/I Bluebird (lyrics: "For Your Precious Love" - as J. Butler), (music: "For Your Precious Love" - as J. LILY, the caretaker's daughter, was literally run off her feet. He would fail with them just as he had failed with the girl in the pantry. He had taken up a wrong tone. His whole speech was a mistake from first to last, an utter failure. His hot face had leaned forward a little too confidentially and he had assumed a very low Dublin accent so that the young ladies, with one instinct, received his speech in silence. Miss Furlong, who was one of Mary Jane's pupils, asked Miss Daly what was the name of the pretty waltz she had played; and Mr. Browne, seeing that he was ignored, turned promptly to the two young men who were more appreciative.
