The Chemical Brothers have composed an official song for the London 2012 track cycling events, titled Theme for Velodrome. Tom Rowlands of the group is a keen cyclist, and his partner Ed Simons said the duo wanted to create a piece of music that would reflect "the sense of speed, pace and drama", of the sport as well as the "incredible beauty" of the new Velodrome in the Olympic park in east London.

The London 2012 Games were centred around the Olympic Park in east London, which is the site of a number of new sports venues. Up to 180,000 spectators a day entered the Park to enjoy the Games, making it the principal focus of Olympic activity.

Stadium-filling rock trio Muse have been chosen to provide the official song for the London 2012 Olympics. The track, Survival, will be played throughout sports sessions at official venues for the games, such as when athletes enter and during the build-up to medal ceremonies. Frontman Matt Bellamy said: "It's a huge honour to have the track chosen as such a major part of the London 2012 Olympic Games  . Their 2009 release The Resistance became their third album to top the UK charts.
