O-o-h Child" is a 1970 single recorded by Chicago soul family group the Five Stairsteps and released on the Buddah label. The Five Stairsteps had previous peripheral success recording in Chicago with Curtis Mayfield; when Mayfield's workload precluded his continuing to work with the group they were reassigned to Stan Vincent, an in-house producer for Buddah Records, who had recently scored a Top Ten hit with the Lou Christie single "I'm Gonna Make You Mine".

From Chicago in the mid-60’s came this five member sibling act who scored a number of hits on the R&B charts before this 1970 iconic song became their only crossover into the pop charts. Written by producer Stan Vincent, the song was originally intended to the b-side of the Stairsteps' cover version of Dear Prudence. Instead, the song’s hopeful message resonated with a larger audience and it made it to number 8 on the US charts.

James, Aloha, Kenneth and Dennis. When "O-o-h Child" comes up on the radio, he declares, "Man, I love this song!" and starts singing along to it. A cover by Dino peaked at on the Hot 100 in 1993. It was the fifth and last single to reach the Top 40 for the pop-dance singer.
