Among other destinations, Concorde flew regular transatlantic flights from London's Heathrow Airport and Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia, and Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados; it flew these routes in less than half the time of other airliners. Concorde won the 2006 Great British Design Quest organised by the BBC and the Design Museum, beating other well-known designs such as the BMC Mini, the miniskirt, the Jaguar E-Type, the London Tube map and the Supermarine.

The fastest Concorde flight from New York to London happened on February 7, 1996, when it crossed the pond in just shy of 2 hours 53 minutes, according to British Airways. The Norwegian captain, Harold van Dam (pictured below), said: "We were actually in the air for just over five hours and if it had not been for forecasted turbulence at lower altitude, we could have flown even faster. He added: "The 787 Dreamliner is a pleasure to fly and it’s a great feeling to know that we have set a new record in this aircraft. These flights took off in 2018 and landed in 2017

The first successful transatlantic flight in a balloon was the Double Eagle II from Presque Isle, Maine, to Miserey, near Paris in 1978. Supersonic flights on the Concorde were offered from 1976 to 2003, from London (by British Airways) and Paris (by Air France) to New York and Washington, and back, with flight times of around three and a half hours one-way. Since the loosening of regulations in the 1970s and 1980s, many airlines now compete across the Atlantic. 2017 between Edinburgh Airport and Stewart Airport, New York

Norwegian flight from New York JFK to London Gatwick LGW completed the full duration of the flight in 5 hours and 13 minutes on Monday 15 January 2018. This was the fastest transatlantic flight recorded on a subsonic commercial aircraft. Norwegian operates double daily flights between London and New York using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. In 2018, Norwegian will take delivery of 11 brand new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Why was it not supersonic? Despite the speed achieved being more than the speed of sound (340 m/s at 20°C), the flight didn’t actually go supersonic because the plane was travelling in a body of air that was already fast-moving, which increased the velocity needed to break the sound barrier. Airspeed was at Mach . 5, below Mach . needed to go supersonic and break the sound barrier.

The promotion was a lottery to fly to New York held for 190 ticke. 5 thousand in 2018 dollars), more than 30 times the cost of the cheapest option to fly this route. Departing from New York, the flight took the Comet 4 aircraft to London where it landed at about 1815. The Comet aircraft revolutionised air travel. If we fast forward 18 years then a new aircraft enters the Transatlantic flight sector. This time, the aircraft is called Concorde and flies at twice the speed of sound. Concorde was for many years the known as one of the most luxurious aircraft in the skies. The aircraft almost exclusively flew Transatlantic flights because of the problem of its sonic boom.

An Airbus neo-Concorde is downright plausible. The new Airbus design, we’re told, will be able to fly from London to New York in one hour - two and a half hours quicker than the Concorde. Its top speed will be 2,500 mph to Concorde’s 1,350. And, for the hippies, it will have boom-dampeners, so the noise won’t bother western Long Island, and so it will be able to fly overland
