Oceana ‎(CD, Album, Club).

Osvaldo Golijov: Oceana. CD - Deutsche Grammophon. The three pieces by Osvaldo Golijov recorded here offer more evidence that his is one of the freest and most compelling voices on the scene. Although he came to the attention of the broader public in 2000 with the bold stylistic juxtapositions of La Pasión según San Marco, Oceana, written in 1996, incorporates a comparable diversity of elements. Perhaps even more than La Pasión, Oceana mingles its various idioms into an integrated aesthetic vision  . The diversity of the selections and the superb performances make this album a terrific introduction to the range of Golijov's gift and vision.

When I first listened to this album, I felt pretty critical and judgemental. Golijov is rehashing his own stuff here, this sounds too much like 'La Pasion'", I thought. But then I realized, Beethoven sounded like Beethoven and I don't give him grief for it.

OSVALDO GOLIJOV - Oceana - Tenebrae - 3 Songs - Dawn Upshaw - Kronos Quartet - Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - Robert Spano . Osvaldo Golijov’s third album on DG presents more of his mesmerizing compositions. Osvaldo Golijov (1960 - ). Oceana. Pride of place among these recent CD issues must go to a new Deutsche Grammophon album devoted to works by Osvaldo Golijov. Every local Golijov "sighting" in recent years has proved a major event. If you adored Golijov's "St. Mark Passion" as much as I did, you should find "Oceana" just as irresistible.

Argentinian composer Golijov writes fascinating music. He is a successful film music composer, and you can hear this in all of his works. The recording brings together a range of disparate performers to tremendous effect. Brazilian jazz singer Luciana Souza, for example, lends the piece "Oceana" a melancholy depth. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Kronos Quartet, Atlanta Symphony Chorus.
