Doonie Baby, Big Lurch, and Rick Rock met at Slop Shop Studios in the San Francisco Bay area and formed Cosmic Slop Shop, condensing the studio's name with Cosmic Slop, the 1973 album by Funkadelic.

Cosmic Slop Shop took its name from Funkadelic's 1973 classic "Cosmic Slop," and George Clinton's influence is noticeable on such cuts as "Twizms," "Butterscotch," and "My World," although the group isn't as consistently Clinton-esque as Digital Underground

Cosmic Slop Shop formed at Slop Shop Studios in San Francisco. Consisting of Big Lurch, Rick Rock, & Doonie Baby, their name is a tribute to the studio as well as Cosmic Slop by Funkadelic. They released one album, Da Family in 98 & disbanded. Rick Rock went on to produce many artists including Doonie Baby's group Federation. Big Lurch is in jail.
