Album · 2001 · 9 Songs. Even though it was released on the British rock label Silvertone, Buddy Guy’s 2001 album Sweet Tea is in fact a tribute to the Oxford, Mississippi-based label Fat Possum. Best known for recording and promoting a host of unknown and highly idiosyncratic old blues guitarists from backwoods Mississippi, Fat Possum’s mission was to undermine the traditional blues scene, which by the '90s had become codified and highly gentrified

To record his intrepid new Silvertone/Jive Records album "Sweet Tea," due May 15, bluesman Buddy Guy says, "They sent me down to Mississippi and said, 'Buddy, get on top of this!'" What 1993 Billboard Century Award honoree Guy got on top of at producer Dennis Herring's Sweet Tea studio in Oxford, Miss. was the elemental, hypnotic blues style of the North Mississippi hill country - a quantum leap, formally speaking, from the brawling Chicago blues that the Louisiana-born guitar wizard has played since he began his Windy City career in 1957

sweat tea rules. one of the best sounding things ever. yes, the art is dull. the music is not. truly phenomenal. i've talked at length with dennis herring about this recording, he has the old 1970s RCA neve console which contributes greatly to the overall warmth and superbness. the production is so good. record was grammy nominated which is the least they could do. this record sets the bar very high. blues music is most often not recorded well. baby please don't leave is as heavy as it gets. holy grail blackface guitar tone.

Just got this today and I can also confirm that the sleeve is good heavy stuff but looks completely washed out. The vinyl itself was beautiful. There are no scratches, scuffs, bumps and was so clean that I could see my reflection in it. The sound quality was just as nice, very quiet and preserved the power behind the music. Absolute perfection.Definitely a must have for Buddy Guy and blues fans.

Just received this MOV 180g Vinyl and can report back - 1. Sleeve is washed out looking, but good stiff cardboard with inner notes sheet.2. The records come in lined car sleeves, so no need for resleeving3. The records are immaculate, clean, glossy and mark free.4. The pressing is silent.5. The mastering is absolutely superb, the recording is rich, loud and punchy, with deep bass.6. Such a great album - the money spent goes into the vinyl (outer sleeve could be been better) and MOV have done a flawless job where it counts. Dont hesitate...
