Black Masses is the seventh studio album by English doom metal band Electric Wizard released on 1 November 2010 and is the band's only album to feature bassist Tas Danazoglou. Supercoven, Dopethrone, and Witchcult Today

Electric Wizard is the debut studio album by English doom metal band Electric Wizard released in 1994 through Rise Above Records and re-released bundled with their second album, Come My Fanatics. A remastered version was then released on CD and LP in 2006, with two bonus tracks, taken from a demo entitled Doom Chapter. The origins of Electric Wizard go back to 1988 when Jus Oborn formed the band Lord of Putrefaction.

Limited to 100. (But 25 of them got water damaged due to flooding in Rise Above Records storage, so there are only 75 copies of this release in existence). This pressing was made to be given to the band members and their family and friends.

Black Masses" marks the seventh time Electric Wizard cooked up a mean batch of grade-A weed and molded the classic doom metal pulse into obscure and ritualistic themes of drug-induced destruction from the ashes of psychedelic rock and intoxicated all-nighters. But I have to say, this band never fails to weird me out in the finest of ways. I'll be the first to say "Black Masses" is not the group's best offering, but the record certainly adds another hit from doom's unholy hand and the rolling thunder of Electric Wizard.

What seemed like a one-time sonic detour on Electric Wizard's sixth album, Witchcult Today, was shown to be a concerted shift in aesthetic by its similarly conjured 2010 successor, Black Masses. On both releases, the hallowed Dorset doomsters once again sped up their typically creeping tempos and replaced their bowel-loosening bottom end for a slightly leaner, snarling guitar sound that opened some space for more prominent vocals, yet was often slathered in a ghostly feedback shroud.

Black Masses is the latest release from seminal doom overlords Electric Wizard. This band is one of the most respected in the entire doom genre; their cult hit album Dopethrone being a direct lineal descendant to the framework established by doom forefather’s Black Sabbath. However, Electric Wizard drag the corpse of the original doom sound through a miasma of swirling, blackened, psychedelia making them a much more foreboding and occult version of Sabbath. Comparisons aside, Jus Oborn (Wizards only original member) in the seventeen years of the bands existence, has created a unique beast.
