By the time she was 13, Judy Garland had signed her first movie contract. By 47, she had died of an accidental overdose. The time in between was marked by pain and tragedy that ended her life too soon. Gumm, a former vaudeville performer, pushed all of her daughters into show business, but recognized early on that Garland had the most talent.
