ZZ Top's choice to pursue that direction on Recycler is puzzling, since a full five years separates this from Afterburner. It's not just that they continue to follow this path; it's that they embalm it, creating a record that may be marginally ballsier than its predecessor, but lacking the sense of goofy fun and warped ambition that made Afterburner fascinating. Released 1990.

Enter 1990's "Recycler", ZZ Top's 10th studio album and the third/final album of the "Eliminator Trilogy". Going through the album, it's easy to tell that the band was still influenced by the synth/blues combo that made the previous two efforts so successful, and at times this album feels a bit too similar to the other two, while in the end not being as strong either. On it's own, though, it's actually quite a great album, and with songs like "Concrete And Steel", "Doubleback", and "2000 Blues", it's hard to NOT enjoy it.
