Damu - Unity You don't have to look very far for colourful dance music right now, but Sam Schorb's flamboyant baton twirling is on another plane of cartoonish mayhem. Vocals taken from pop and R&B are stuck in the midst of a minefield of tacky confetti blasts, hyperactively scaling melodies and darting basslines. From here on the album takes an experimental bent even on its most typical moments: listen closely and you'll hear the rough-and-tumble bassline of "Cheat When U Compete" harshly jostling the usual proliferation of chirps and chintz. The latter half of Unity reveals a different aspect of Damu's sound.

Typically clattering, percussive Damu moments like ‘Plasm’ are imbued with a deeper sense of purpose; a foggy and absorbing ambience that carries over through vaporous motifs. Sometimes however, these atmospheric tropes seem less than capable of holding these moments together.
